Always helping (read: playing), TC lends GJ a paw. She’s actually fixated on a small piece of cord just off camera. Seconds after this was taken she pounced!

The face of wonder.

GJ applied for an art residency the other day. It would be super wonderful if he gets it! So, I took this portrait of him to include in the application. I just think he look very dapper so thought I would share.

GJ Pearson creating beauty in the studio.

Chinese New Year begins tomorrow and last week I created some new cards to mark the Year of the Dragon. Also found some inspiration in some beautiful Japanese paper so created some small painting of a portion of the paper design and turned them into cards.

Sadly, our neighbourhood has lost the amazing fibre store called Knotty By Nature as they have moved to new digs in Fairfield. Not too far away, but no longer just around the corner! I stopped by yesterday whilst on my bike ride. The new shop looks great! Everything one would need for knitting, weaving felting, with friendly knowledgeable staff. 1704 Lillian Road off Fairfield, not far from the Fairfield Shopping Centre.

Knotty By Nature Fibre Arts

KBN has taken a strange drab space and turned it into a bright and cheery shop.

The front window showcases finished items for sale by many community artisans.

Beautiful roving for spinning or felting.

Yesterday was a perfect winter day: bright with sun and a gathering sky which hinted that snow may be coming (wasn’t). I headed out on la mia bella bicicletta into the busy city. I stuck to the side roads through the neighbourhoods of North Park, Fernwood and Jubilee before crossing the border into Oak Bay. A short stop to take in all the sensual delights at Pure Vanilla  Bakery and then onto the Estevan Village. I stopped at the studio of Phyllis Serota for a short visit. Phyllis is preparing for her next show at her studio on February 19. She has just published a book of memoirs of her life called “Painting my life.” I’ve always found that Phyllis’ work feels very intimate, even if the viewer doesn’t know the story in the painting. With her book, she brings the viewer more clearly into her world with a loving, vibrant account of her life thus far. I headed next through the Estevan Village, worth a visit, with many lovely shops and eateries. Just a block from the ocean I rode along the water for a spell and finally wound my way through Oak Bay into Fairfield. The light was already fading by 3 pm so I headed home to meet GJ and go for a short walk and sunset.

23 December 2011   Super fun day today, just poking around the quaint town of Nelson. Shopped a bit (bead store!), ate some breakfast, shopped some more, found all the groceries we need for the next few days. Cold and crisp again today, with the promise of fresh snow as soon as tonight!

GJ and my sis as we wander the bustling main street of Nelson.

Hopefully I'll have a chance to take some pics of the town with more snow.

A glimpse of The Big Orange Bridge which takes you north to Kaslo, along side of Lakeside Park.

Such a lovely day yesterday, mild and sunny. The whole city was buzzing with Yule-tide glee. Off I went to the Laurel Point Inn to view the 3rd Annual Gingerbread Showcase, a benefit for Habitat for Humanity. The harbour was beautiful and calm. Carolers were everywhere practicing for the Figgie Pudding Caroling Contest in Bastion Square. I remembered the time wrong so missed this event. All together a very festive day.

The other side of this one was even nicer, but I couldn't get a shot without people in it!

Strange underwater scene with crabs. Beautifully executed.

This one was amazing, especially the turtle; just lovely.

So many favourites!

Loved this one for its delicate simplicity.

This was particularly wonderful and made me think of K & R (tiny deer, bottom right).

Lovely reflections on the water of the Inner Harbour.

Lovely view from the third floor of the Inn at Laurel Point.

I few more things, plus sweets:

Bite-sized shortbread and ginger cookies, yum!
