I took a long walk today and noticed that the temperatures on the Canadian west coast are just beginning to turn towards spring, which is lovely. I look forward to the blossoms, but autumn and winter are my most favourite seasons.

Autumn in 2017 had many highlights. A dear cousin was visiting Victoria with family and friends and we all went to Pagliacci’s for great food and live music.

There was fun with an international flare to be had right in our beloved neighbourhood of Chinatown.

All Hallow’s Eve was spooky and filled with scary surprises around the city. We had a blast with tricks and treats visiting friends in Oak Bay.

In late November we spent two days in Vancouver for a tiny vacation and rendezvous with my sister and Randy. Day one we enjoyed the festive lights of the big city, ate at the always-delicious Bao Bei, and were mesmerized under the Grand Chapiteau for Cirque du Soleil’s show Kurios.

Day two, more wandering before a delicious dinner at Vij’s, then off to the last ferry home.

Victoria, so pretty with festive lights, window displays, and a very impressive “Whoville” gingerbread village at The Empress Hotel.

I catered dessert for a private Holiday party, and saw an impressive Santa and Mrs Claus at a local diner!

Christmas arrived with lots of treats (including Glerup slippers), and tissue paper and gift bag fun for the cats.

And the best gift of all, snow for Christmas Eve and Day!

And then on Tuesday, we did this:

Super fun morning having a manicure at the MGM Grand spa, hair by darling Kerry, makeup by my dearest sister Nicole. The wedding itself was surreal, but super fun. Everyone at the Graceland Wedding Chapel was so gracious. Three songs by a very tall and awesome Elvis. Then we all went to the Aria for late lunch at Julian Serrano and then Kà, another blow-my-mind Cirque show. Totally the best day of my life; feeling so blessed to have shared it with my beloved.

On Monday morning, we did this:

Lounged by the pool in the afternoon and then saw an amazing Cirque du Soleil show, Zarkana, at the Aria. It was spectacular; just gorgeous. Wonderful day.

Upon returning to the west end, we took a short walk along the sea wall then back to the hotel to prepare for our evening out under the grand chapiteau for Cirque du Soleil’s Amaluna. We had a lovely walk through the west end and ate a very delicious light dinner at ShiZenYa on Hornby Street. Nice sushi, a lot of vegetarian options, organic greens and brown rice, and Ocean Wise fish. The night was crisp and dry so we decided to walk to the venue which is at Concord Pacific Place at the old Expo site. Along the way we watched people skating on the outdoor rink on Robson Street, just below the Art Gallery. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the smell of popping corn, the buzz of excitement, and the beauty of other patrons who had adorned themselves in Cirque-worthy outfits. Our Victoria friends M and I met us there and we all enjoyed the show so much. A quick sky train/bus ride back to the hotel just in time for last call at the Sylvia lounge. I had a boozy hot chocolate; the perfect end to a perfect day!

Photo does no justice to the wonderful meal at ShiZenYa. We will definitely eat there again.
