On the last day of July, I rode my bike along the Galloping Goose Trail to Mattick’s Farm, a collection of shops and services in Saanich, about 15 km from downtown. The ride is marvelous, mostly on trails. Another time, I would go a bit earlier and have breakfast at Adrienne’s Tea Garden and Restaurant, or a bit later for ice cream! There were a lot of cyclists – the perfect stop for a ride to or from Sidney.

There is a pretty good amount of bicycle parking available. As well as the restaurant, there is a Red Barn Market for purchase of snacks and beverages if you didn't bring enough in your panniers.

Had a wonderful walk yesterday with our friend M. She lives very close to our beautiful city park. We walked all around the gardens admiring the plantings this year, saw some turtles and baby ducks, and ended our visit over delicious beverages at Heist Coffee Co. on Courtney Street.

Our long walks in the summer often include the neighbourhood of Fairfield. It’s a quiet, pretty part of Victoria with some very nice beaches, shops and places to walk.

So many gardens have alliums right now, especially these bright beauties.

A few random shots from Victoria BC in the heat of July. Taken last week when we went for a long walk for my birthday.

A beautiful summer day today. Spent a bit of time sitting on the beach on Dallas Drive looking out across the straight at the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. Wishing all our American friends and followers a Happy Independence Day!

With all the trees in full leaf and the roses beginning to bloom, it feels like Victoria is ready for another tourist season. The harbour is bustling with boats and the cruise ships are back in full force. Wishing everyone a happy summer of travel!

Our Inner Harbour is truly multi-use with the Coho car ferry to Port Angeles, float plane service to Vancouver and other BC locations, the Victoria Clipper high-speed ferry to Seattle as well as the harbour ferries, yachts and sail boats, and even recreational users like these kayakers.

Victoria has a lot of festivals all through the summer. July had Jazz, Busker’s and Ska Festivals as well as several other food and music events. In August we’ve already had the Dragonboat Festival, Indian Festival (Mela), Fibrations Celebration of Fibre Artists and Flamenco Festival, with the Accordion festival in full swing this week and Fringe coming up next week. September hosts two of our biggest festivals The Great Canadian Beer Fest, September 6 and 7, and Rifflandia Music Festival September 12–15. Here are some pics I shot this weekend: a couple artsy shots from the Flamenco Fest and some good shots of the Lion Dance which was presented yesterday in my neighbourhood by the Wong Sheung Hung Fat Kung Fu Club to mark the anniversary of the Chinese Freemasons.
