The summer of 2017 was perfect in Victoria! Lovely weather, and the city was alive with events and festivals of all kinds. Work life kept me very busy, but I made some time to enjoy the season.

We were honoured to be invited a second year to join friends for a big birthday party on Saturna Island. We had an amazing time! We rode our bikes again this year which was definitely part of the fun. Breezy Bay BnB is amazing!

On the next weekend we had a quick day trip to Vancouver followed by the Victoria Pride Parade, which was so joyous and colourful.

Of course, there were many long walks and some beach time with Annie. Another high fire season again this year in British Columbia, and more locally on Vancouver Island, brought some smokey days and eerie sunsets.

And, of course, we rode our bikes! We had a few rides with friends which always includes a packed snack of tea and cake, and participated in the Tweed Ride which raises funds for Bicycles for Humanity.

The mornings are cooler now which is delightful. Yesterday I went straight to the waterfront on Dallas Drive at the bottom of Government Street. A single crow watched me carefully in case I was carrying a muffin. Sadly for us both, I was not.

On tuesday, we had the most incredible rain storm, or storms, as there was a spectacular one in the afternoon with thunder and lightening, plus a bonus evening downpour of epic proportions. I did not capture these, but instead, the gathering clouds and lead up. We had a lovely morning walk and were almost home when the first gentle drops began to fall. These were taken at the beach on Dallas Road, just below Beacon Hill Park:

A beautiful summer day today. Spent a bit of time sitting on the beach on Dallas Drive looking out across the straight at the Olympic Mountains in Washington State. Wishing all our American friends and followers a Happy Independence Day!

Such a beautiful morning at the Dallas Road waterfront. The ocean was calm and the Olympic Mountains were glimmering in the morning sun. Just after I took this, I met Fred the west-highland terrier and his human. Fred sat by my feet while I spoke with his human; I wish I had remembered to take his picture as he was so very sweet.

Glorious sunshine and a biting, but refreshing, wind for today’s walk. Lots to see – flowers, birds, waves, dogs – all our favourites! Here are some pics:

Went for one of our great long walks the other day and took photos of some fun things that we saw along the way!

Purple starfish!

Yum, wild blackberries!

Fun planter lush with colour.

Couldn’t resist taking a pic of this little well-worn beauty! The roof-rack full of vintage cases and baskets was the best!

Met this little chap, a Chihuahua/Boston Terrier cross apparently. He was very cute!

The wild sweet peas are still blooming creating a lovely pink tone along the cliffs on Dallas Road.

Another gorgeous spring weekend. Our friend Brad Pasutti was having an opening of his new work at Winchester Gallery in Oak Bay, so we hopped on the bus. Amazing paintings and a well-attended opening with red dots! After a while, it was time for coffee, but the delicious bakery (Ottavio) next door to the gallery was packed. So off we trundled into the depths of Oak Bay searching for sustenance. Luckily, not too far along, we found Demitasse Bakery Store on McNeill Avenue. Great little bakery-shop-deli-garden centre where we had a yummy snack. Then we wound our way through the side streets until we reached Beach Drive. Crossing into Fairfield we walked through the beautiful and peaceful Ross Bay Cemetery and then along the water, through the park and home. Wonderful delightful day!

Hard to see in the pic, but the pink snow has begun. Delicate pink petals dance in the air and gather along the curbs. Another good wind will bring them all down.
