Catalano Restaurant and Cicchetti Bar is the new restaurant at the beautiful Magnolia Hotel. Last weekend they began serving brunch. We couldn’t resist trying it right away, as brunch is the meal for us! It’s a pretty place with some cozy booths and some tables with a view towards the harbour. The coffee was delicious, service excellent and our meals were superb. There were so many mouthwatering choices, it was hard to decide.

Yum! Clockwise from bottom left: The Weekend Crossword (creamed leeks and crispy prosciutto with truffled hollandaise benny), the Catalano Corn Cakes (with mascarpone cheese, caramelized apple and bacon), and the Tagine (a Moroccan vegetable stew with grilled lamb sausage).

Our friends from Tofino are in town right now. We had all been wanting to try this little Japanese place, Uchida, in Nootka Court. It’s right beside my other new favourite, JagaSilk, which we also visited for maccha and dessert. The lunch was sublime; delicate, intricate flavours and textures. The small menu features organic produce and local meats as well as the freshest seafood. The daily specials are posted on their facebook page which will make you drool. Get there before noon to beat the rush.

Simple decor in a beautiful space. There are only a few tables. Best to be there before noon if possible.

Duece waits patiently for us to enjoy our lunch. We could watch her as she visited with the passers by with whom she made friends.

Our lunches: Two of us tried the Teriyaki Chicken Don (left) and the other two had the daily special, Rockfish Ankake. Both were amazing.

I'm loving the Maple Maccha Latte at JagaSilk, and yesterday we tried Daifuku: a traditional Japanese dessert of glutinous rice cake filled with sweet azuki bean paste. Delicious!

We found some very good food in Las Vegas. I only took one food picture strangely, but here are our eating highlights in no particular order.

Kabuki Japanese Restaurant  A small chain, but food was good and service was excellent.

Julian Serrano  At the Aria Hotel. Small plate Tapas with lots of vegetarian, delicious.

Tamba Indian Cuisine  Very delicious Indian food, nice atmosphere, very affordable.

Chipotle  I am so excited to find that a fast food chain could have this kind of integrity. One of our best (and most affordable) meals in Vegas.

Shibuya  Exceptional Japanese cuisine at the MGM Grand. Incredible meal and amazing service. A great experience.

Mon Ami Gabi  We wish we had tried this place sooner. Another small chain, but food was so good and service outstanding. We sat in the atrium just inside from the patio. Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

One of our best meals. GJ says best Eggs Benny he's ever had. English muffins are made in house. Mine was florentine with spinach and artichoke hearts and GJ had smoked salmon.

Walking around the downtown on a lovely spring day completing errands. Hey! Let’s stop for coffee! So we went to the new location of Macchiato Caffe and Paninoteca at The Juliet on the corner of Johnson and Blanshard streets. GJ’s americano was very good and I tried their Callebaut Spiced Chocolate Chai which was amazing! It looks like they have nice sandwiches and treats too.

This part of town is becoming a bit of a food hub with this new place, Pig, Shine Cafe, Habit, Jackalope, Zambris and a block further Clay Pigeon, devour, Delicato’s, Special Teas and a large array of Vietamese, Thai and Indian places to name a few. Macchiato’s other location is on the corner of Broad and Broughton.

Yum! My Callebaut Spiced Chocolate Chai was a rich yet mild hot chocolate with spiced chai and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
