We enjoyed another delicious breakfast at Clay Pigeon in Victoria BC yesterday. They have a new treat and we couldn’t resist trying one. It’s a homemade pastry reminiscent of those packaged toaster goodies my mother would reluctantly buy once in a while if we pleaded long enough. These were superb!

Flakey and sweet with a flavourful strawberry filling; and all homemade, except for the sprinkles!

Lovely autumn evening for a walk a few nights ago. Sauntered around the harbour and through the garden at The Empress Hotel before treating ourselves to dessert at Clay Pigeon. Such fun!

Chocolate Spoon Bread; yummy.

I had The Fresa, prosecco and berry compote and GJ had a glass of just prosecco. Clay Pigeon has it on tap!

We’ve been watching a space very near our front door transform for the last couple months. They opened yesterday and today we went. Jam Cafe on Herald Street serves breakfast all day; we were not disappointed! The menu had nice variety and some interesting dishes. I had their Huevos Rancheros, which was very good; bright fresh flavours. It consisted of a fried corn tortilla piled with black beans and sour cream or cream fraiche, then another tortilla, two perfect basted eggs with a very lovely fresh cut guacamole and delicious green salsa. It was served with chorizo sausage (which I gave to GJ) and corn cakes, which was two slice of a yummy corn bread that had been grilled. GJ tried the Charlie Bowl, I think it was called, which was a big bowl full of yumminess: crumbled biscuit, hash browned potatoes, gravy and eggs and some other perfectly placed ingredients. The decor was lovely and inviting. We will definitely be back to sample more.

Jam Cafe, breakfast all day. open 8 am to 4 pm in the 500 block of Herald Street, Old Town, Victoria BC.

Sweet decor: very inviting; not overdone; nice attention to detail.

More decor.

As usual, I excitedly dove into my meal before I remembered to take a pic! The presentation was very nice.

We love to eat out, especially breakfast. We have our local favourites, but today we sampled a new place, Clay Pigeon, which just opened yesterday, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was delicious and the atmosphere inviting in this small bistro on Blanshard at Broughten, kitty-corner to the Royal Theatre, in downtown Victoria. The menu was well stocked, and with not-the-usual breakfast fare. GJ had a Ratatouille with poached eggs and I had the Kale Florentine with caramelized onions and crispy potatoes also topped with eggs. I was torn between several dishes and almost went for the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes, which will likely be what I order the next time we are there. Thanks to our hosts for a delightful meal!
