Cherry blossom season is just finishing; endless pinks replaced by the bright greens of spring foliage. The blooms were abundant and fragrant, as usual, but before long they had become a carpet of delicate petals and are then gone for another year.

A long stand of trees on Richardson Street in Fairfield held me captive for an intoxicating 20 minutes admiring their beauty.

Downtown Victoria has many varieties of ornamental cherry and plum trees, blooming from mid February through to late April. Those in Chinatown are especially beautiful.

I love our neighbourhood! Chinatown, the oldest in Canada and second oldest in North America, is beautiful and magical – and never more so than with snow! After hanging out with our visiting family, I spent the afternoon walking in a sparkling blizzard.

Today marks the beginning of the Chinese New Year, The Year of the Wooden Horse. Here are a couple pics from Canada’s oldest Chinatown, plus a nice link to explore the history of my beautiful neighbourhood!

We were very sad yesterday to take down our show at Dales Gallery. We had so much fun and met so many interesting people. While we were there, we had a chance to take some video recordings of the new and adapted pieces and update GJ’s youtube channel with new films. The rest of the summer is ahead and we feel excited about the momentum generated during our time at Dales. Thanks to everyone at the gallery for their support!

Another of my favourite neighbourhood haunts is Trade Roots, a furniture and home decor shop at 545 Herald Street. Their small space is full of gorgeous antiques, furniture custom crafted from reclaimed wood and fixtures, and imports.  This welcoming and inviting shop is also a great place to find unique gifts!

There are so many great shops, restaurants, and boutiques in our Old Town/Chinatown neighbourhood of Victoria BC. Dogs in the Bakery is one of my favourite. Located in vibrant Dragon Alley, Dogs provides toys and novelties for your beloved pooch as well as house-made healthy treats, including custom birthday cakes.

A beautiful day in Chinatown for New Year’s celebrations! Here are some pics from around our wonderful neighbourhood in Victoria BC. Welcome to the Year of the Snake.
