Here are three new jewellery pieces which are now in our online store. This might be the last jewellery for a while as I’m doing a bit of painting again and thinking about making hats and paper flowers. GJ is working on a new sculpture, which is always exciting for me – I love to watch the progress. You can see his new website here.

Just waiting for the masses to descend 😉 – so thought I’d write a post. We’re holding these little gatherings once a month now; they are super fun. Here are a few picks:

The 4th Annual Victoria Tweed Ride was held last sunday, and what a lovely day it was! The ride itself was quite long this year, beginning at the St Ann’s Academy grounds downtown and finishing at a perfect picnic spot at Esquimalt Gorge Park. More than 200 riders enjoyed an ideal day out.

Waiting to take off! GJ built an amazing wind-powered flying machine for the front of his Raleigh. It worked so well, spinning propellers and flapping wings! Video coming soon.

The lovely Marion always creating. I wish I had gotten a better shot of her dress which she sewed herself from vintage fabric.

GJ recently finished a new clock-like piece. I love the way it rings a bell every 6.4 minutes. The video can be seen here.

We were very sad yesterday to take down our show at Dales Gallery. We had so much fun and met so many interesting people. While we were there, we had a chance to take some video recordings of the new and adapted pieces and update GJ’s youtube channel with new films. The rest of the summer is ahead and we feel excited about the momentum generated during our time at Dales. Thanks to everyone at the gallery for their support!

Last week GJ and I set up our new show at Dales Gallery, a block from our studio in Chinatown. The show is mostly of GJ’s kinetic sculptures spanning the last few years of work. He also has some of his sigils and paintings and we made some prints and postcards as well. I had a couple abstract watercolours from 2008 and painted five new ones as well. We also included a few copies of a hand-bound book I made of GJ’s Spirits of the Mechanical Age sculpture series from a few years ago. We had a great day at the opening on Saturday. Lots of visitors seemed delighted in our work, especially in the magical nature of the kinetic pieces. Here are a few pics. Will post more pics of specific pieces and links to new videos throughout the next week.

See the World Without Leaving Home on youtube:

Took the ladder and the new piece (See The World Without Leaving Home) over to Dales Gallery, a block from our home, on friday. It waits there to delight and inspire, and with any luck, will find a new home and someone else to love it! We’ll be posting a video of it in motion within the next few days.

From below; a long pull cord sets the piece in motion.

It looks so beautiful hanging at Dales, a gorgeous space.

Ship detail from below.

Detail of the flying ship, upon which sits a tiny mansion.

The main body which houses the motors.

Detail of the globe.

It’s really coming together now! It will be a chandelier and so much more. I’m including here a better picture of the bit which started it all: the little air ship mansion in a walnut shell.

The main section is now hanging up to receive the next phase of work.
