Glorious sunshine and a biting, but refreshing, wind for today’s walk. Lots to see – flowers, birds, waves, dogs – all our favourites! Here are some pics:

It's definitely the height of daffodil season; they are everywhere and abundant this year!

A dark grey day walking home from friends was brightened when we entered Summit Park and saw the meadows full of crocus and other spring offerings.

Nothing too exciting, just our usual waterfront walk on friday afternoon. Thought we’d have a nice walk before the long weekend began and everyone else had the same idea. Well, there were two cruise ships in port, so lots of people out enjoying the beautiful day! Met a lovely and adorable  English couple in matching fleece; so cute they were! Anyway, saw some new things blooming and ended the walk with the most delicious chocolate cake at our usual stop Tre Fantastico at the Parkside.

The angelica is all opening now along the waterfront. So majestic.

The papery bud just about to burst.

Beautiful, delicate wisteria frames this shot of one of the small lakes in Beacon Hill Park. Soon the lake will be full of mamma ducks and their babies.

The beautiful purple camas is everywhere in the park and along the waterfront. Found this one white one among the sea of purple.

Mmmmmmm cake.

A great windy day yesterday so we incorporated a long walk around the waterfront with the more mundane tasks of dropping off tax returns and picking up cat food. It is so much fun to walk in the wind, smell the fresh spring air and feel the strength of the ocean as it crashes on the shore. We had a lovely encounter with a Hummingbird who let GJ get quite close to him to take some pictures. The camas is blooming along with the buttercup and a few fawn lilies still showing off. Because it’s wild flower season, the parks crews have left the grassy fields along the waterfront long and wild, and the wind was making them sing.

Beautiful long grass leaning down in the wind. We had just met the cutest little bulldog who came bounding through the grass with pure abandon and delight.

The camas brings the purple tinge to the green meadows.

Pretty close...

A little closer...

Too bad the light didn't capture his brightly-coloured head.

Found this burst of blue in a yard on the way home.

Another gorgeous spring weekend. Our friend Brad Pasutti was having an opening of his new work at Winchester Gallery in Oak Bay, so we hopped on the bus. Amazing paintings and a well-attended opening with red dots! After a while, it was time for coffee, but the delicious bakery (Ottavio) next door to the gallery was packed. So off we trundled into the depths of Oak Bay searching for sustenance. Luckily, not too far along, we found Demitasse Bakery Store on McNeill Avenue. Great little bakery-shop-deli-garden centre where we had a yummy snack. Then we wound our way through the side streets until we reached Beach Drive. Crossing into Fairfield we walked through the beautiful and peaceful Ross Bay Cemetery and then along the water, through the park and home. Wonderful delightful day!

Sweet little gate plaque in Oak Bay.

Hard to see in the pic, but the pink snow has begun. Delicate pink petals dance in the air and gather along the curbs. Another good wind will bring them all down.

Kite surfers and others enjoying the beach just west of Clover Point.

The camas are just beginning to bloom at Beacon Hill Park.

Rhododendron season! These are at Beacon Hill Park.

Another gorgeous spring day yesterday. Caught a few shots of floral beauty near and around City Hall.

The long planter on the Pandora Avenue side of City Hall, full of colour!

Gorgeous magnolia in full bloom at City Hall.

Pretty kitty in the window.

Gorgeous spring day (!) so we walked over to Fairfield and the first Moss Street Market of the new season. They are holding only half markets for April, so it was just the farmers today, but still very abundant: produce, seeds, plants and preserves. What a treat to have this market on Saturdays, the Downtown Public Market on wednesdays and a new health food store, Ingredients, just a block from our home! Food bliss.

Our friend Rebecca grows wonderful organic vegetables...

...and makes delicious jams, chutneys, pickles, salsas and sauces!

The cherry blossom spring is in full swing in our little west coast town. All the early cherry and plum trees are open, and the fluffy showy large blossom ones should be blessing us soon. Happy days.

Some pretty blossoms near our home.

Last year I made a bunch of needle-felted wool blossoms to adorn some bare branches; bringing the spring in! They were eventually turned into hair clips.

Gorgeous spring day yesterday so we set out to walk the Westsong Walkway. We weren’t far along when I was hit full in the head by a seagull’s well-aimed ordure, good luck maybe? Thanks to a kind stranger with a handful of paper napkins, we were soon on our way. A lot of people were also out enjoying the day and the beautiful scenery. I love to be able to walk far away from traffic and we are blessed to have this among many beautiful places to do so in our little city.

About half way along, this ever evolving sculpture by Rich Rico delights passers by.

Near the beginning, this little pug came charging up the path.
